Here How To Backup Your VirtaCoin Wallet

You all need to backup your VirtaCoin desktop wallet, because when your computer are broken all your coins will be lost. But you can get your coins or VirtaCoin back if you already backup your VirtaCoin desktop wallet.

So Here 2 Ways How You Can Backup & Restore Your VirtaCoin Desktop Wallet

1. Backup Your VTA Wallet With Your "wallet.dat" File

1. To backup your wallet, you need to make a copy of your " wallet.dat " file and store it on another computer, flash drive, external hard drive, or other storage device. Please store your "wallet.dat" backup in a save place. 

   So to create your backup of your "wallet.dat" backup, go to the top of your wallet and click "File" button, and then click "Backup Wallet".  Then you can name your backup file as "wallet.dat".

   ( WARNING, please name your backup file as " wallet.dat " only...it will not work if you changed your backup file name to others name )

   This is also can be found in your VirtaCoin home folder here:

   • Windows: C:\Users\USER NAME\AppData\Roaming\Virtacoin
   • Mac: /Users/USER NAME/Library/Application Support/Virtacoin
   • Linux: ~/.virtacoin

2. How do I restore a backup of my "wallet.dat" file?

   To restore a backup of your wallet, go to the VirtaCoin home directory (see question above) and delete the "wallet.dat" files in the directory while your wallet is offline. Then, Replace your new "wallet.dat" with your backup " wallet.dat " to the home directory and start up your wallet. After you replace your new wallet.dat with your backup wallet.dat, you will get back all your coins back.

You can find and restore your "wallet.dat" backup here in your VirtaCoin home directory below:

• Windows: C:\Users\USER NAME\AppData\Roaming\Virtacoin
• Mac: /Users/USER NAME/Library/Application Support/Virtacoin
• Linux: ~/.virtacoin

- Easiest way of getting to the AppData directory is to open Windows Explorer and enter "%appdata%"

 (THIS IS FOR WINDOWS- you can restore your "wallet.dat" here)

(REMEMBER, please create a new "wallet.dat" backup file every time you created a new address)

2. Backup Your VTA Wallet With Your "PrivateKey"

As long as you have your private key of the Funded Account, 

you still have all your coins intact.

(Some members reported that they don't received all their coins from their "PrivateKey" after they installed back their PrivateKey backup...SO PLEASE create your "PrivateKey" backup for every addresses you have in your wallet for safety. So each addresses in your wallet should have their own PrivateKey backup)

How To Create Your PrivateKey:

First click on the "help" on the wallet software, then "Debug window", click on the "Console" and at the bottom you will locate a space where you can type. Click inside the box and type this there.........

Type this command:   dumpprivkey "VTA receive address"

Then hit "Enter"

(You are now receiving your PrivateKey address)

-If your wallet is encrypted, you have to unlock the wallet using the passphrase 

for a set period of time so that you can dump the private key

- to unlock:

type:

walletpassphrase "passphrase" 60

This will unlock the wallet for 60 seconds, then type

dumpprivkey "VTA receive address"

and the 31 or so character key will be presented

STEP 1 (unlock your wallet first):

Example 1:  walletpassphrase "YourPassword" 60

Example 2:  walletpassphrase "YourPassword" 600

(you can use 60 seconds or 600 seconds)

STEP 2:

Type This Command:  dumpprivkey "VTA receive address"

(you will now get your PRIVATE KEY after step 2 finished)

This Is How To Import Your PrivateKey:

Type This Command:  importprivkey "yourPrivateKey"

(Your will now get all your coin after you import your PrivateKey)
